Working Overseas

I’m in contact with experienced marketing professionals everyday with regards to legal marketing & business development opportunities. The majority of people I speak to are UK based and looking for marketing & business development roles based in London or regionally. Some marketing professionals however are keen to look at overseas job opportunities. Whether the individual is a originally from outside of the UK and looking to return home or a marketing professional who wants to experience working abroad, we can assist them.

Most people contact GR Law looking for advice and have a lot of questions to ask, some of which we might not be able to answer. If you are serious about venturing abroad to further your professional/marketing career you need to carry out your own extensive research on the area(s) you desire to move to.   As you consider living and working abroad, depending on your situation, you will need to think about services such as housing, taxes, banking, schooling, transportation, immigration laws, etc. There are many websites and forums you can look at to get the advice you need. The best place for information is normally the country’s government website as they will have everything you need to know about immigration and will be able to send you an information pack. Forums help too as you can speak to those who have already made the move and can obtain further guidance from them.

The language barrier is normally the key factor when looking to move abroad, if you are moving to a non-English speaking country it is advised that you at least have a good understanding of the specific language. International law firms tend to require a marketing professional who is able to speak and write fluently in English and one other language, however some firms may be more lenient than others on this matter.

In the past 12 months I have helped experienced legal business development and marketing managers move abroad and find new marketing positions. Some examples of people I have helped are; Should you wish to discuss working abroad or immigration please feel free to contact me, carly.challinger@grlaw.co.uk
