The following information is given in order to provide you with a generalised overview of the temporary working categories foreign nationals are able to enter or remain in the UK under. To be able to apply for a visa under most Tier 5 categories foreign nationals must have a job offer from a licensed sponsor, and he/she must pass a points-based assessment. It should be noted that there are additional requirements under the youth mobility scheme.

Tier 5 (Youth mobility scheme)

Is a route for young people from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Monaco and Taiwan who wish to enter the UK to not only work in the UK but also experience UK’s social and cultural life.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - creative and sporting)

Is a route for foreign nationals entering the UK to work or perform in the UK for a maximum of 12 months under the sportspeople or creative categories. If a foreign national wishes to enter the UK under ‘Sportspeople’ he/she must be internationally established at the highest level in their sport, and/or their job must make a significant contribution to the development and running of sport at the highest level.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - charity workers)

Is a route for foreign nationals entering the UK to take part in voluntary (unpaid) work for a charity in the UK. The work must be directly related to the sponsor organisation's work.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - religious workers)

Is a route for foreign nationals to enter the UK for preaching, pastoral or non-pastoral work, or work in a religious order such as a monastery or convent.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - Government Authorised Exchange)

Is a route for foreign nationals to enter the UK through approved schemes that aim to share knowledge and experience.

Tier 5 (Temporary worker - International Agreement)

Is a route for foreign nationals coming to the UK under contract to do work that is covered under international law.
