Many of the top international law firms are located throughout Asia and have offices in a number of major city centres in several Asian countries. Such firms are renowned Magic and Silver Circle UK firms, prestigious US firms and Top Tier Australian firms.
Vibrant and unique, steeped in culture and tradition, high energy and exhilarating. Living and working in Asia can provide lawyers and paralegals with exciting opportunities and international exposure in some of the world's best known law firms.
Hong Kong
Living and working in Hong Kong, one of Asia's most vibrant and lively cities, can give lawyers excellent international exposure. We work with a number of international law firms including Magic Circle, Top Tier and prestigious US firms. Lawyers with language skills are more commonly required for roles in Hong Kong, especially those with written and verbal Mandarin and Cantonese skills.
China - Beijing & Shanghai
China's burgeoning cities, Beijing and Shanghai, are growing at such a rapid rate that the increase in the demand for foreign lawyers is phenomenal. With many Australian top tier firms and top UK and US firms opening branch offices in either one or both of these cities. Mandarin and/or Cantonese fluency, although not essential, are definitely an advantage for candidates wishing to work in Beijing and Shanghai. Generally speaking corporate lawyers would be at an advantage speaking Mandarin and for banking and finance, Cantonese is the language mostly used.
Japan
Japan is a high energy, vibrant, cultural mecca. With it's enticing cities, amazing transport systems and large ex pat communities, Japan is a fantastic destination to live and work for foreign lawyers. Language skills are not a necessity, but certainly an advantage for lawyers wishing to relocate to Japan.
Singapore
A climate that is never cold, a culture that is rich and exotic, Singapore is a great place for foreign lawyers to live and work. Singapore is a modern Asian city that boasts a cultural mix of Chinese, Malay and Indian traditions. Due to its multicultural makeup, Singapore recognises four official languages, these being English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil, with English being the language of administration. You will also find the locals speak a unique dialect of English known as "Singlish" which mixes English with common Chinese and Malay phrases.
Thailand & Vietnam
Those of you looking to work in Thailand and Vietnam will find that whilst salaries may not be as highly competitive in comparison to some Asian countries, the lifestyle and experience gained by working in these countries far outweighs salary considerations. We work with top international firms in both countries and areas in demand are corporate M&A and banking and finance.
