The Brussels Legal Market - May 2011

Total views: 3813 Spring is traditionally the time of year that recruitment in the law firms in Brussels picks up.  Spring 2011 is no different and there would appear to be even more of lift this season than previously.

EU/Competition and Trade:  The main source of revenue for international law firms.  There has been a significant amount of recruitment and movement in this area led at the most senior level by the lateral hiring of partners.  The very public dissolution of Howreys began a series of moves throughout Brussels in 2011 and the opening of offices by US firms new to the Brussels market has added activity.  K&L Gates opened their Brussels office at the start of the year and Cadwaladers have just announced the establishment of their own office under the leadership of Alec Burnside.

International Corporate Law:  Brussels reputation is as a centre for EU Law but corporate law remains one of the key areas of law within the city.  Lateral recruitment in this area has remained steady and is dominated by Belgian trained lawyers with international outlook and expertise.
