The availability of paralegal roles and the speed in which they are filled can vary enormously with some clients wanting several people to start immediately for a short assignment lasting just a few weeks. Long-term roles, however, move at a much slower pace with employers generally conducting two rounds of interviews. We suggest therefore that you keep a close eye on our website for future opportunities as well as individual law firm websites as some roles are filled directly by employers.
The work handled by paralegals will vary enormously depending on the type of firm and department you join. Typical tasks are likely to include document review, basic drafting and research. However, you should also be prepared to do some mundane duties such as filing and even photocopying.
The way you are remunerated will vary depending on the length of the contract. Paralegals hired on a short-term basis are often paid by the hour while those on fixed term contracts / permanent roles will be paid a salary and if appropriate this will be pro rated. As a simple guide hourly rates for paralegals working in City / US law firms hover around £7.50 while annual earnings start from £20,000 and can go up to £27,000.
