Derivatives lawyers are "highly sought-after"
- Standard Chartered Bank is looking to increase its numbers of in-house derivatives lawyers, it has emerged.
The legal recruitment news comes as the bank has hired derivatives associate Belle Chan-Moffat from Stephenson Harwood to work in its London branch, reports the Lawyer.
A source close to the bank told the publication: "There's been significant growth in the commodity derivatives market, particularly in the emerging markets."
Meanwhile, the bank is aiming on recruiting derivatives lawyers to work in New York, Dubai and Singapore over the next 12 months, which may be of potential interest to people seeking overseas law jobs.
"Good derivatives lawyers are few and far between and the ones that are in the market are highly sought-after," the source also reported.
In other legal jobs news, Steve Davis, chairman of Dewey & LeBoeuf, recently reported that the firm's London branch is expected to see "substantial headcount growth" in terms of lawyer numbers over the next few years.
