Clients come to us because of the calibre of our candidates. Our candidates come to find a job quickly and with the minimum of hassle. We understand that looking for a job can be stressful and the consequences of taking the wrong job are enormous, not only damaging your CV but as we spend so much time at the office it is essential to be happy at work. We aim to provide the highest possible levels of service in every aspect of the legal recruitment process and that once you have found a job you will feel comfortable in recommending us to others. In selecting a legal recruitment consultancy candidates have told us that the following points are important to them:
Market knowledge
We have detailed knowledge of the legal marketplace because we have worked in legal recruitment for so long and have such a large client base. We act for 60 out of the top 80 London law firms and have done so for many years. Look at our consultants’ profiles and you will see how long they have been at GR Law and specifically working in legal recruitment.
Range of Positions
In addition to the above we also act for many of the US firms, the London offices of the leading overseas firms and legal departments within banks, financial institutions and international companies. We also work with many small City and niche firms in London. Our reach isn’t simply within the UK. We recruit for Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Moscow, Kazakhstan, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Bahrain, Muscat, India, Australia, Singapore and Beijing.
International Positions
In addition to finding the right position, deciding to uproot and move to a new country can be exciting and daunting at the same time. It is important to get advice from people who know what it is like to live and work in the place where you will be settling and what you need to be prepared for. We have a variety of consultant based in our London and Sydney offices who are able to share with you a breadth of knowledge and experience from a great variety of cities, countries and cultures across the world. Many of our consultants have worked, lived or spent a large amount of time in the countries for which we recruit and visit them regularly. We know our markets and clients by going there and meeting people face to face and not just relying on information we find on the internet. We have a strong network of clients, candidates, friends and family across these zones who help keep us up to date with the latest information for all candidates. For more information please take a look at the relevant market in the information for candidates drop down menu.
Interview Preparation
We are professional interviewers and assist our clients with their interview and selection processes. It is vital for you and our clients to be properly prepared for an interview. You should obviously know about the position and the company but also the way in which the interviewer will approach the interview. An interview is an opportunity for the employer to find out about you and vice versa. Our interview tips section gives detailed advice on interviews which are the most important step in the job hunting process.
Approachability
We feel it is important that you can talk to the consultant you are dealing with. We aim to be open, honest, approachable and to go the extra mile. At our initial meeting we are not trying to interrogate or ask trick questions simply to build a detailed picture of what you are looking for and to formulate a strategy with which you can achieve your objectives. Sometimes we have to tell people that their aspirations are unrealistic but we hope to be constructive and suggest viable alternatives.

The Market/Current Situation
We are pleased to say that the legal market is finally picking up after several bleak years. Having become used to hearing of redundancies each week these have almost completely disappeared. There is still some restructuring going on but much of this is much more strategic than a rapid response to falling levels on income. In fact many firms have reported significant profitability increases on the previous year. It is not yet a completely rosy picture as most firms are cautious about the future.
Hiring activity across the City has increased significantly in all areas although firms are still insisting that applicants meet every criterion and will reject candidates who do not fit the job description precisely. As a result some jobs are remaining unfilled. We anticipate that firms will have to become more flexible in their hiring over the next few months as the shortage of skilled applicants starts to impact their ability to grow.

Areas of law in demand in Asia vary from country to country. Overall however the market has returned to growth with demand for lawyers with specialisms in corporate M&A, banking and finance, capital markets and securitization. The most desired candidates are those with the ability to speak Mandarin coupled with a background in international law gained whilst working for reputable international law firms. If you are unable to speak Mandarin but have a good CV then there are still opportunities. Approximately 20% of the vacancies GR Law currently handles do not require the ability to speak a local Asian language.
