Can I Be Self-Employed While In The UK Under The Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme Category?

I have recently received a number of telephone calls regarding whether foreign nationals who are in the UK under the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme category, are able to carry out self-employment work in the UK.

According to the UK immigration rules it stipulates that if a foreign national is in the UK under the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme  category, no self-employment is able to be carried out under this category, unless each of the following criteria is met:

·         The value of the equipment used in the foreign nationals business does not exceed £5,000; and

·         The foreign national does not employ anyone; and,

·         The foreign national has no other premises which he/she owns, other than his/her home, from which he/she carries out their business.

If all the above criteria is met foreign nationals who are in the UK under the Tier 5 Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme category are able is able to carry out self - employment in the UK.
