Associate lawyer jobs

If you are considering your next move, whether it be to another law firm or in-house legal department, GR Law will be able to guide you through every step. Our fee earner team prides itself on the strength of its relationships with top employers both in the City and overseas.

Our approach is simple. We offer honest and impartial advice based on our extensive market knowledge to help you identify and secure a role that meets your requirements. Our consultants will meet with you face-to-face and work closely with you to prepare and execute an appropriate action plan. We will only release your details / send your CV to an employer with your express consent.

As we are a relatively small agency we work with fewer candidates than most of our competitors meaning we have the capacity to go that extra mile for everyone we work with.  And because, unlike other agencies, our consultants do not have candidate registration quotas if we are not in a position to help we will simply tell you.

Though the vast majority of our candidates are UK-qualified solicitors we are happy to work with overseas qualified lawyers who are considering relocating to the UK or are looking for a new role in their local jurisdiction. Indeed, for those of you who are currently based in Australia or New Zealand or are thinking of moving to the UK and vice versa then our colleagues in Australia will be delighted to help you (click here for more information).

In the UK the jobs market lawyers is relatively buoyant despite macroeconomic conditions and is surprisingly strong at the mid-market level. We have a number of private practice vacancies for candidates who are between 2-4 years' PQE across a number practice areas notably corporate, construction, debt capital markets, insurance litigation, restructuring, TMT / outsourcing and structured finance.  We also have roles for senior associates in similar practice areas most notably corporate and structured finance.

The inhouse market is a little bit quieter with some sectors such as financial services putting recruitment on freeze until  the Eurozone crisis is resolved. However, some areas such as energy remain busy with opportunities arising both in the UK and overseas.

Securing your new role will require meticulous planning and is likely to be time consuming. So before firing off your CV to us or indeed any other agency ask yourself why do you want to move? There is likely to be more than one reason so try to put these in order of importance. The main factors to consider here are career progression, quality of work and indeed remuneration.  Additionally, what are potential deal breakers? Personal circumstances may come into play here especially if any new role requires you to relocate. And what will happen if your current employer tries to buy you back?

You may find that the factors motivating you to move may evolve as your job hunting progresses. For instance, many candidates who start by looking for an in-house role often end up securing another private practice position. Again, our consultants will be able to guide you throughout your decision making process to ensure you make the choices that are right for you.
