David Cameron has recently announced he plans to impose restrictions on benefits for EU migrants. Under the new proposal, EU nationals will not be able to claim benefits for more than 6 months in the UK unless they can prove that they have been continuously looking for work over that period. The proposal announced is not as severe as the proposal previously suggested which would have banned EU migrants accessing income-related benefits entirely for a year. The new plans will also restrict foreign nationals from social housing if they have not been resident for five years.

Sarah Manning - My first week

Sarah Manning - My first week

My first week as Head of Private Practice at GR Law is drawing to a close and I’m not afraid to admit I’m feeling pretty tired. Before joining I was the co-director of a boutique legal recruitment firm specialising in partner and team moves and whilst we were focused and consultative in our approach, our pace of life was somewhat slower than here.

Over the past few days I’ve been inspired by the passion and momentum that my colleagues have. They work tirelessly for our clients, seeking to find the very best people for the roles they wish to fill, as well as providing excellent guidance and advice to our wide variety of candidates. We work within small teams, each with their own particular area of expertise. It ensures that each client or candidate gets the very best from the person they speak with and enables us to work with them regularly and consistently, ensuring that we are able to offer an excellent level of service.

The office is abuzz with talk of goings on in the legal market, phone calls to various firms, whether they’re dotted around the city or on the other side of the world, so much drive and energy on display. The enthusiasm and momentum is infectious and I’m delighted to be part of the team.

My remit is to head the Private Practice team. Whilst my focus is senior level hires (from junior partner to board level, including those at the Bar), we work closely as a team to match lawyers with the most appropriate law firm, whether they’re Magic Circle, international, West End or otherwise. Whether you’re a junior lawyer or someone at the senior end of the market, we’re passionate about working with you to create the right opportunity for you.
